I don't know which is worse (to our minds at least), leaving the locos rusting in the open or burying them in the embankments. I am doing some investigation into how many of them have been excavated, restored and are running - I'll post a summary. I've always had a soft spot for NZ railways: everyth...

Don't be fooled by that balloon stack - many non-US locomotives were built with such spark-arrestors. All it indicates is that the fuel was likely to be wood, sugar cane or similar. 'Joan' on the Welshpool & Llanfair originally carried one as she burnt sugar cane when she worked in Antigua. Not much...

I am really looking forward to this route - please keep us all posted with progress! I am glad to see from the route diagram that my home city of Wells is indicated on the Yatton-Witham branch. It will be interesting to see the B&ER / ESR / S&DR trackwork and all three stations for England's smalles...

For those of you who want to contemplate other people's brain-fevered designs, try these: Johnstone annular compound duplex: http://www.livgenmi.com/1899LocomotiveHistory~73.htm Santa Fe flexible boiler Mallets: http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/LOCOLOCO/flexmallet/mallet.htm Other weirdos (incl...

Patrick there was a reason for the garish paintjobs .. Understood. They are wonderful models - I am really keen to see any recreation of the pre-colour film era, especially when there are no remaining examples around. The model of Claude really captures his rakish good looks and is a reminder of wh...

Ah, splendid - the Erie Triplexes! They and the Virgina Railroad's triplexes had a significant lack of puff. The Virginian's examples could barely haul themselves up the grades they were supposed to bank trains. Similar spectacular shortfalls vis a vis design objectives include the Santa Fe express ...

Agreed - Wow! I gasped when I saw the Claude Hamilton, one of my favourite pre-grouping locos. Tho' I think the blue isn't right: it was a much deeper, darker blue bordered black, edged red that really showed off the brass and copper. There is a copy of F Moore's pic of GER No.1900 in the latest iss...

.. And, I can confirm, all Caley engines are barred from NBR metals! Excellent - but maybe the 'South Western Manson 460s can have a look in at Carlisle? I always thought they looked quite handsome and their reputation when new was as good as if not better than those poncey big blue things o...

Welshpool Mountain Railway Of course the inclined boiler would be a liability going down into Sylfaen, Castle or Dolarddyn Road, so I would recommend building turning triangles at the summits to permit reversal of the train. I get a hammerite hit every morning and evening as I work my way thr...

Escape from the Rye & Camber Triangle YESS! It was the Tsection file - I have replaced what was there with v22 and the R&C works like a treat. The varying track textures remain, but hey, if it ain't broke .. Thank you for your patience and all the advice I received. Maybe now I can take those GWR c...

An update from the Bureau of Anomalous Phenomena: Thanks for all your comments and suggestions, several of them sound likely contributory factors. I will start with investigating the Tsection one and if there are pleasant results will let you know. In the meantime 'Camber' is condemned to cycle ind...

No escape from Rye & Camber Triangle I removed all R&C files (routes, locos, stock, activities), redownloaded all of them from UKTrainSim (inc. the route) but there is no change from my previous report. The variation in track textures remains, occurring in numerous places, but having the strange ef...

Return to the Rye & Camber Triangle: I have downloaded and installed the latest Xtracks from UKTrainSim. Things are somewhat different, but still very odd! Trains no longer derail when leaving Rye, instead some strange instantaneous travel phenomena are observed. This occurs when the coupling betwe...
