I understand that a new history of the line is due out later in the year. I have seen some of the loco and stock drawings and if their quality is anything to go by, it will be a corker! Patrick 70 years after the line failed and was dismantled, I would expect that the only likely source for "new" d...

'Politicians are like monkeys: the higher they climb, the more unpleasant the features they reveal.'

Or something like that .. I think that was said by Gwilym Lloyd George, the Welsh Wizard's son.

Yes, St David's is very much smaller, but I was deferring to Welsh independence! :D

If you are visiting the ESR at Cranmore, if you ask politely they are likely to let you take pics and measurements of the locos and stock. Just explain what you want and why. If the guys have the time they will be very helpful - running days are best as there are likely to be folk down the 'dirty en...

I'm intent on doing all of the route as far as bournemouth including the branch lines to burnham on sea, bridgewater and wells. So far I've got just outside midsomer norton which includes some of the frome to bristol and bath to mangotsfield but quite a lot of custom objects finished. Looking forwa...

Well, isn't that a coincidence - I was thinking / half-dreaming of how to do the L&M coaches only last night! All looks very good - looking forward to changing trains at Waterhouses and travelling to Hulme End in the near future..

Ian - Yowzah! That was it - 3DC was using some of the coughed-up pizza texture as the transparent layer. I deleted this and reapplied the textures with the desired result. I notice that 3DC often likes to introduce a transparent layer without telling me - I shall have to watch out for that in future...

Texture problem

This may be a very simple issue but, as a novice to 3DC and texturing, I'm baffled. I am learning how to use both 3DC and PSP7 with a test loco for I have created a TGA file with a boiler texture and some other bits. But when I apply these, the objects become semi-transparent and in the case of the ...

With a change of colour, this is almost the same as the Sentinel on the ESR. See here: http://www.eastsomersetrailway.com/stoc ... &number=39
This loco is ex-Port of Bristol Authority No.39 and is the diesel mainstay of the ESR.

Nelson (5ft3), Patrick (MountainStage) - The Hunslets are already under way. I intend to do them in later, GSR/CIE condition with Inchicore fittings. This also means that there will be no lining out - just grey, black and Kerry rain! T&DR livery version will follow, together with the variations of b...

Ahh, a beautiful, elegant loco, very lady-like indeed. I omitted it from my very brief list (I didn't include the CR Cardean, SE&CR Wainwrights, LT&SR Atlantic tanks ..) because there is already an 8B 'Jersey Lily' (ID:4585), along with an 'Immingham' 460 (ID:985) and an 11F 'Improved Director' 440 ...

Your F13 has a wonderfully purposeful look about it. I think that Drummonds 460s, even if they weren't operationally brilliant, certainly looked as if they meant business and were some of the many high points of Edwardian railway aesthetics. You've caught this very nicely and it's very pleasing to s...

Thanks Paul - I suspected that an extrude was the way forward, and was attempting it when the phone rang and the screensaver made 3DC hang (as usual). As a total novice with 3DC, I am slowly getting the hang of things, and it is sometimes difficult to chose which of several options is best. I am sti...

Curved cabs

I'm trying to make a cab with a roof that curves from the top of the side sheets without an overhanging roof edge, similar to the GNR / Stirling-style cabs. However it is not as simple as the 19thC examples, as it also has a roof extension over the footplate with a cutaway. Here are similar examples...
