Central will use whatever they can get sometimes, like any other operator would! I remember travelling on a BNS - Cardiff return worked by a Centro 150/1 a few years back. A lovely journey! But yeah, sorry, I forgot Central had slowly got rid of a lot of their 156s. I would say slightly more likely ...

The BNS - Attenborough leg would be Central Trains, so likely to be a 156, 158 or maybe a 170 if you're lucky. The 156/8s condition can be anything from ok through to diabolical, but if you land a 170 it should be quite a comfortable journey. Could be worth remembering that Brum-Nottingham services ...

I guess the state of the unit is somewhat down to what has been inherited from ATW and Wessex. Have to say, finding seats like that was common on the old Central Trains 158s. There really were a few rough units doing the rounds.... probably still out there somewhere.

I think for rail staff discounts using FIP on Eurostar, you need to book through Rail Europe ( http://www.raileurope.co.uk/ ) over the phone. Make sure they know you are a FIP holder and you will likely need to quote the number on your pass at some point. I don't know what the price is for a standar...
