Route_Riter 6.0.06 Beta

Postby mikesimpson on Fri Sep 10, 2004 3:16 am

Well I told you it was a beta. I will upload 6.0.07 today :-(

Turns out that if an .sms file was not in unicode to start with (in which case it would not have worked in MSTS). Then RR either locked up or rendered the .sms unusable.

New version now checks for Unicode, and if the original is still in ASCII it modifies it automatically.

Sorry about that.

Mike, you're getting as co-operative as young Tim with his Finescale;
I downloaded the update to 6.0.06 just before bed last night, now before I've got it installed, you've found bugs, swatted 'em and are uploading new versions before I've got the old one installed. How's a poor old fart like me supposed to keep up?

(teasing, honest - keep up the wonderful work. :))

Hi you old Fart,

Well there is another one now, v6.0.06 thru 08 had a bug if a sound was aliased to the SD402 sounds and pointed them to the SD40 (which does not have a sound folder).

Sorry about that, but anyone with the above versions must change to v6.0.09 as this could cause problems with lots of U.S. locos.

Sorry

Hi Georges,

This only works on selected .eng files. First run Conbuilder to check the Engines - If it reports an error due to incorrect case in a particular .eng file, then select that .eng in RR and click the Fix .eng names button.

Hi Mike.

Just applied the .09 patch and tried to check a route. I get an error message 429 - ActiveX can't create object. Any ideas what I've done wrong?

Regards,

Bob.

Just went back to a full install of 6.0.5 and everything seemed to work okay. Then added the 6.0.6 files and the Check Route gave the error message.

Hi Matt and all,

Bob emailed me direct, and the following is the reply I sent him, please advise if this helps:-

Hi Bob,

Assume you have the Microsoft .Net Framework installed? Must be v1.1 or later.

If this is OK, go into the Route-Riter folder and there should be a batch file named InitTokens.bat, try clicking on it – Once it runs, you should get a DOS window reporting that everything has installed OK. If not and you get an error message, can you tell me what it is?

Do you have Okrasa’s latest set of Horace/Archibald/Zipper installed, and if so do they work?

You are certainly correct that this is a compress/uncompress problem. I doubt if Compact route etc will work either, or any of the Uncompress/Compress buttons on the MSTS Utils tab.

Funnily enough, there is a message on this forum headed AceIt which complains of the same error 429 message. RR also includes AceIt now, but this would not be called during a Check Route option. Does AceIt work OK in your versions? You can click on it in the RR folder.

FYI I had that yesterday with beta 8 - so its nothing thats changed in 9, probably since 6. I do not have time to run further tests at the moment unfortunately.

Mike,

I have .Net 1.1 installed.

I ran the InitTokens.bat and it gave me the message "Types registered successfully".

I have those utilities and I can run Archibald and open a shape file. It gives me a pile of information I don't understand but doesn't give me any error messages.

If I click on aceit.exe in the Route_Riter folder it appears to work ok.

I tried uninstalling R-R, Shape Viewer and ConBuilder and then just installed R-R 6.0.5 and it was fine. Then installed the 6.0.9 update and the error popped up on the Check Route option.

Let me know if I can try something else to help solve this one.

Regards,

Bob.

Just tried to uncompress an .s file using the "Uncompress .s" button on the MSTS Utils tab and nothing happened - no error message, nothing.

Hi Bob,

I have asked Okrasa if he has any ideas. I have 6.0.09 working under XP and 98se with no errors. With the 98se machine, I installed 6.0.05 full version, then updated as per the instructions with the 6.0.09 update and it worked first shot.

I feel the only difference may be that both my machines have the full version of Visual Basic 6 installed, and that some other .dll or .ocx is being called by these routines which I was not aware of.

Otherwise I will revert to the old routines - Note that I have had several reports of RR running slow under XP SP2 - This appears to be because of some other program causing a conflict under SP2 which did not happen under SP1 - As RR runs fine under SP2 on most machines, it is going to be difficult to work out what this conflict is without having a closer look at an affected machine.
