Announcement : Claude Jousset RER B suburban route

Postby ebensoussan on Tue Jun 15, 2004 4:12 pm

With the kind permission of Claude Jousset, the author of the LGV A (coming soon on the site), I have just uploaded his Paris suburban route, the RER B version 1.1.

You will have to download 2 self installer files plus an information pack containing moreover the 10 original activities by Claude Jousset I translated in English. Noice you need only 3 easy-to-download models to run these activities

As you certainly don’t already know this route you will find hereafter a small illustrated report.

Claude Jousset route depicts the southern part of the real line, run by the underground operator RATP and which joins the Gare du Nord to Robinson and semi rural St Remy, 30 km south of Paris. (the northern part, run by the SNCF, joins the Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport). This is basically a commuter route, but you can run duty trains and in Massy Palaiseau station you can have TGVs, commuter trains of other classes, freight trains and some passengers trains in transit through circular itineraries. When old timer EMUs (in a time starting from 1938) will be available, you could run as well light freight trains on some parts of the route.

The route starts from the underground station of Paris Gare du Nord and quickly reaches the important connexion station of Châtelet Les Halles. We are here under the heart of historic Paris. Nearly all the journey through Paris is underground and the train arrives in the open air in Denfert Rochereau station.

After the international university campus, we leave Paris to enter the suburb. Claude Jousset reproduced faithfully some interesting landmarks like the Arcueil aqueduct, built during Louis XIV reign to send water to Versailles gardens.

In Bourg La Reine station startson the right the short branch line to Robinson

The main line goes further towards south. Near Massy Verrieres the RER B line follows closely a branch of the RER C, crosses over a bridge the LGV A, then crosses under a viaduct the busy circular line around Paris before entering the important junction station of Massy Palaiseau. Notice the characteristic station building

After Massy Palaiseau, the landscape is slightly less urbanized. There are a lot of cottages and forests stretch over the hills (a little bit oversized !).

I added some screens shot by Claude Jousset himself and showing his work in progress old timer class Z EMU.

Nice looking route and good screens there mate. Makes me realise there is a whole planet of foreign railways out there I know next to nothing about! :(

I've been rapidly learning that installing loads of French, German, Swiss and Dutch railways for the Euro exhibition - and the quality is very good indeed, very enjoyable to drive. KMJ is spectacular for example - i'll have it with me on Saturday on the external drive so you can copy any / all of the routes that you want.

Concerning the KMJ, I posted many months ago some screens on the forum http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... hlight=kmj
Did you know that Hakan Pettersson took the Settle Carlisle route as a model to create the 1st version of the KMJ ? In the next two upgrades, he improved considerably the layout.

I've always been stunned at the quality of modelling on pretty well all of the non-UK European routes I've seen, and this one is no exception. If I wasn't so tied up in the UK scene I'd do nothing but drive these continental railways.

hello Fodda,

i'ts well known that the grass looks always greener on the other side of the fence. I discovered here a lot of excellent british routes with a faithfully realistic scenery. And the best payware routes are british too : the Cambrian and the SV are far above US and german payware routes.
My conclusion : if someone is fond of TS or any other train simulator he really has to be curious of productions offered by other countries. As I realize from time to time some activities, I know I had much more learned from british, american, italian, german traisimmers than remaining always connected to the french sites.

Same here Emmanuel, to me all trains are good - it's just that I know more about UK ones. Lately i've been learning loads about European railways too though, and enjoying the excellent routes :) There's good stuff from all over the world now, that's for sure.

After looking through those screenshots yesterday, I couldn't resist. But instead of downloading the route I decided to get Alpensee out of storage. That really is a fantastic route too, and the stock for it is exemplary. Didn't get a jot of cab-building or route testing done at all all evening!  Naughty boy... Slap wrist.

I see Wupper Express is now available as well! Thanks a lot Matt! I haven't got time for the stuff I have got without you waving all these extras under my nose. At least when they were tucked away on the foreign sites I could pretend they didn't exist... Now I'm going to have to take a week off work just to run all these great continental routes... AND explore more of NWE2... And Mersey3... And I've not even looked at Cannock Chase 4 yet although it's been installed for a fortnight!
