UKTS at WiganMRS exhibition June 2013??

Postby rufuskins on Mon May 13, 2013 10:50 am

I note that the Wigan MRS website shows UKTS in attendance at their 2013 exhibition 15/16 June. Can this be confirmed by anyone?

It's an exhibition that I attended last year and was pondering a return this year.

News to me. As far as I am aware Warley is the next outing.

Hi Robert, with a £10.00 admission charge along with the added petrol cost, this will stop me attending this year.
A lot more exhibitions are charging this sort of figure and I have a fear that less people will be going in the future,
will they bother to put on these shows.
I have seen the same layouts at several exhibitions I've attended lately and it would be nice to see some new layouts
now and again.
I realise that you need a van or large 4x4 to carry them to the various locations and this must add to the cost to the
exhibitors and event organisers.

I can't argue with that as it was the same problem that once again stopped me attending Warley last year. However in my case this is one of the very few shows that I do attend - thankfully the travel costs are lower for me as I live relatively near.

I will be disappointed not to meet up with the UKTS DIY team again, as I enjoyed one or two shows when I tried to add my MSTS pennyworth so to speak!

Alec

PS May try Warley again this year as a retirement present to myself!

Hi Alec, I always pop down to Warley on the Saturday afternoon to meet up with the gang and if I do
cut back in the future that is the one worth going too as there are great displays for all keen railway
people.

Visited Wigan this afternoon as we needed to take the dog to the vets for jabs, etc. this morning!

Miraculously I found a free parking space almost straight off. Paid the £10 entrance and hoped that it would be worth it. It was crowded without being uncomfortable. Had to wait to get coffee until the queue was reduced. A lot of good layouts and some that I considered only fair, but then who am I to judge?

Plenty of trade stands in particular book stalls. Being on a tight budget due to the cost of entry I was restricted to anything £10 or less - to say the least that was restrictive!!! I looked for a book that might have plans or similar for Hawksworth coaches as my PM'd request fell on proverbial stoney ground. However Booklaw had smoked damaged books at 50% reduction, and I came across the LMS Locomotive Profiles book on the diesel-electric shunters at £10 instead of £20.

Therefore this has decided me to try one of the LMS shunters (prequel to the Class 08) for my first effort with TSM, rather than Hawksworth coaches!

After November the entry cost plus travel costs will preclude me from this show - surprisingly there was no reduction for OAPs. Still times are changing and such benefits are fast disappearing!

C'est la vie, Alec
