Info, maps, pictures and more are available at the route's website http://cambslines.ivimey.org/

Big day today - finally got the beta for the first complete section of the line (Cambs to St Ives, Cambs to Fulbourn) out to our gallant beta testers. Waiting for the first feedback.

I will post some screenshots in the next few days - either me or Ruth may get round to some video clips too !

Quite a few learning points in getting a collaborative route packaged - but hopefully the pack is coherent and usable!

Now on to 22 miles of flat country and a million dykes !

To you both, well done!

I have a wish that three routes make it to release soon, yours, RobertM's (Esthwaite) and Shap. I'm not baised, they just have my signals

Come on then Neil and Ruth, lets see the signals then :D

Looking great Neil and Ruth! Shap is still there, let me get CKPR 2: Revenge of the Ironmasters done and I'll be right on it

Thanks for your encouragement everyone!

We hope to release the route once we're happy it will run, which should be soon. The section from Six Mile Bottom to St Ives, via Cambridge and Chesterton, is looking reasonably good we think. Cambridge itself is looking good and there is track and some scenery for much more of the route - out to Meldreth, Ely, and Newmarket.

Phase 2 will involve completing the line to Newmarket, completing Waterbeach - Ely, and improving several other areas.

I'll do a video showing some of the progress made shortly.

Would it be good to do so as a webcast?

One of the things we are doing in the release is some scenario (and date) specific changes - showing how much the route changed in the 10 years that spanned the end of steam. Obviously the game has certain limitations (can't add or remove track) - but it is still possible to give a different feel and (hopefully evoke) the atmosphere of change. To this end I am experimenting with scenarios set 10 years after our 'core' era of the early 1950s - these will use new/updated scenery objects and some old tricks to simulate the closure of many of the associated lines around Cambrideshire.

Here we see the before and after on a spot north of Cambridge station - in 1951 just running lines and a set of parallel sidings:

but by 1961 there is dense commercial development to the left and a new diesel shed to the right:

Here we have one of the iconic views of Cambridge with Spillers Mill in original form:

and here by the '60s it had acquired a huge concrete silo:

Cambridgeshire (WIP)

To continue on the thread in the shiny new '13 forums... some new pics!

The first shows my first attempt at terrain modelling: a lofted bank for the Devils Dyke ditch in two sections with a custom-modelled infill where the railway crosses it. And yes, this ditch / bank is really big!

The second shows the model of Newmarket Station in its intended environment - although admittedly not much of it's visible! More will come!

Hi Ruth

This is still looking very good.

Do you know you could get the 2012 thread moved into this forum by asking a moderator? They might even merge them together if you ask very nicely.
Alan

My railway photos are back - you can access them from https://plus.google.com/photos/10506703 ... banner=pwa . Lots of steam and early diesels from the late 1950s and early 1960s.
