HI

I am exhausted today but I have completed about 90% with the main route and scenery just about finished. Signalling and detailed work to do but one further evening should do it. I might even persuade my boss to let me go home early on Friday as well. What a nice man he is.

I did quite well with the Yard. I have generally placed two siding markers in each siding so AI traffic can build up or leave from two different points and I have added two coaling and water transfer points off the turntable. It does take a bit of thinking to use the default assets the way you want and there is a certain amount of repetitiveness but I think I have done quite well.

I have finished the farmland and added a few features and also built a big river on the east side of the route -

The last Station and Town to be built was Denby and this is the result -

I have also padded out all of the track in the route with vegetation although the later sections have had to be done very quickly -

I have saved the RailWorks folder three times today and kept each copy so unless my computer is stolen, I should be pretty safe with storing the route and all my other content.

And so to bed ... I will sleep well tonight :D

Wow Geoff - looks like a lot of scope for scenarios there.
Keep it up.

Not sure that boat will get under that bridge...

I like the sound of your boss Geoff.

Excelent route there mate. Looks like it will be a very good route.
I do agree with derek that the boat looks too tall to be able to fit underneath the bridge

Hi Nath

There is now a pier by the bridge for the boat to moor up to so that the passengers can have cream teas by the river.

I have just about finished my route and have been testing the signals, turntable, fuel points and generally running around. I am actually quite astonished at what has been achieved in just under a week. I am having a few problems with signals but there are only a handful not working properly which I should be able to fix with a bit of trial and error.

As I am not entering my route for judging, I will probably go for an upload over the weekend. I still need to write a small scenario and check that everything works properly but I am satisfied that the vast majority of the necessary criteria have been met within the allocated week and I reckon that it has taken about 50 hours to build.

No pictures tonight as you should be able to try the route yourself very soon.

Now off to bed ...........

Hi

Just a quick update to say that I am checking out this route ready for uploading but I am struggling a bit with the signalling. I have not used the traffic light signals before and although there are not that many to place, I have not chosen the right ones at key junctions which means that even my simple scenarios do not work properly. The fault is due to my inexperience, however, as slowly I am getting there by trying out different signals and bit by bit they are starting to work correctly. I should have stuck to the semaphore signals which I am a little bit more familiar with but the experience must be good for me. It does not help that I am signalling for trains running on all lines in both directions but it can be done.

I am only working on the signals and scenarios and not route building as such so although I am beyond the 7 days building period, the vast majority of the work was done in that time.

I hope to finish this evening and upload to the library later if I get everything completed and tested.

The next time you run the route you should see the green terrain as well as the sky and your route is now ready to start building in - NOT YET. Wait until the Challenge starts before placing anything. If you are wanting to use DEM data then you must also wait until the challenge starts before you raise terrain this way. EDIT - 19/10/09 I have amended this sentence as the original wording was not correct.

Checked and double checked and all are ticked as described but no green green grass of home appears. One thing though, the ticks are definately there but very light. Not lighting up, does this indicate something else has to be done? Like sharing allowed somewhere or something? I`ve made scenarios before but never a route from the ground up. So I`m using these instructions to create one. Any ideas?

Hi Steve

I am not sure what the problem could be but someone else made the mistake of thinking that all route template references are to the RailSimulatorCore but the terrain is referenced to RailSimulator (environment\terrain\texturing). I suggest you double check that the wording in your route template agrees EXACTLY with that in my sceenshots. You may have to click on the images to get larger pictures and a better view of the text.

hi,
A possibility, if I understand the post correctly...

In the very beginning, when you first create any route from any template you will arrive at the world of clouds and darkness. You then have to exit the route and re enter it to get the green green grass of home for the very first time.

Many thanks for all help. After much time was spent redoing the templates I still had no grass. However, I made a new scenario based on the template, ticked the Kuju etc once again and this time it worked. I do know for a fact the first time I used RailSimulatorCore instead of Railsimulator in the Terrain section.

I`ve done my first tentative trial run and while the tiles are not all lined up perfectly I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think its more down to my efforts at this stage in working it all out but that will improve as time goes on. I`m looking at Warrington to Manchester initially and perhaps Warrington to Liverpool where time allows after that. I think the next version will improve matters for my use of the program.

Hi Steve, I am pleased to hear that you got it right in the end.

Hi All

I have been locked away in my cupboard over the last few nights working on the completion of my Challenge Route. I have had quite a job to get the signals and a single scenario to work but I have now completed this and the route has been uploaded for you all to try. Do not expect too much as the route was built very quickly but it is OK. Expect more from the eight Challengers who did get round to finishing the Challenge on time and are being judged at the moment.

Remember these routes use only default assets so from download to play should be a matter of minutes.

The scenario involves taking some wagons from the quarry to the yard, dropping them off, taking on coal and water and then taking back some coaches to the Heritage Railway Centre. I have used a steam engine in the scenario but, of course, you can use any of the default locos that you like in free roam or in your own scenarios. You can try this out yourself soon but here are some shots. Click on any image to get a better resolution image -

The Yard is quite full today -

The Turntable is a delight to use -

Coal and water is urgently required -

Back to judging work now.
