Another Challenge?

Postby Trainguy76 on Sat Apr 17, 2010 7:45 pm

I was thinking it might be time for another challenge. Maybe the same rules, or maybe we could increase the challenge by saying you have to build a route that is not set in your own country. Or maybe each route may only have one item that someone has to download.

Another Challenge ?

Well it was always something that was a possibility and if enough people like the idea, then I am sure something can be arranged.

In order to maintain the element of 'Challenge', perhaps the subject of the Challenge would be kept secret until the start but this time I think a time period of two or maybe three weeks would be better so that the final routes can be more complete.

Perhaps anyone interested would like to post their interest on this thread.

Would love to have ago.

Not sure if it was allowed in the other one but prehaps we should be allowed to build and use custom objects in the route which might also help with getting more objects to use in other routes

If you do that then we might want to put it all in a collective folder.

Yeah :D and also as the challenge goes on and as we build the routes how about we upload them to a central place to allow the other competitors to use them so people dont vote for a route because it doesn't use custom objects etc

Perhaps, if you allow scenery building, a diorama rather than a full route might be an option?

Well, if you keep it as a route, then that would make it harder to have a large gap of assets between the more experienced builders and the less experienced.

I think we would have to stick to the main principle that only default assets could be used in the competition entry, apart from a specific route template. This will ensure that the greatest number of people would be able to use the routes straight off and also makes it easier for the route builders to create the routes as the selection of assets to use is limited.

An alternative approach would be to allow use of any freeware assets as well that the authors had specifically confirmed could be distributed freely. This would allow the Challengers a much wider scope for creation without losing the 'Load and Run Straight Away' criteria.

Perhaps that could be how the custom objects have to be; Be able to packaged with the route and freely disturbed

Many creators have said that their assets can be used from another thread, but for the purposes of the challenge, I think default is the way to go, you can release the challenge route in this way then if required, modify the route at a later date with any additions/dependancies you want. The original challenge proved the quality that could be done with default items.

If you fancy doing it again Geoff, I will put my name forward providing it can fit in with my schedule (sounds prima donnerish but thats the way it is at the moment!). I did not plan at all last time and started an unprototypical foreign route from which I had no research of signalling etc. This time, I would, I have 3 or 4 real life ideas within the scope of the challenge. :D

I feel this may be the best way to do it too.

Not any more :D

I will think over some ideas but keeping very much to the original Challenge format but this time keeping the final details of the Challenge secret until the start. That way everyone will have to start a completely new route but with more time to do the Challenge.
