IMHO it's not. Payware items bring scenarios to life, adding variety and realism. There are only so many times you can drive the default stock until you get bored.

Hi Adam,
I will bear in mind your comments for the release of V3. However, the variety of very high quality payware rolling stock available does allow scenario authors to put together realistic looking activities using prototypical stock - which is what a real world route is all about. Running the same old Black 5 and Southern mk1 consist gets a little boring after a while, for me anyway.
Personally I would also be reluctant to write anything involving too much inappropriate stock as it detracts from the realism of the route.
In the extra scenarios produced to date I have deliberately kept the shopping list short on each individual scenario to allow people to pick and choose.
Maybe V3 will have more opportunitues for the Black 5 and Southern Mk1s!

Cheers,
K

Hi Keith. These may be RW issues or they may be route issues, but I thought I would mention them should you be able to look at them in V3. I have noticed whilst creating a scenario that the first colour light signal on the eastbound approach to Maxwelltown station displays in the track monitor as being at danger when in fact it is clear. Also, when heading south through Dumfries station, the signal just beyond the road bridge at the end of the platform gives a clear aspect (with feather) for a movement into Dumfries South up goods loop, even if the signal at the end of the loop is set to danger. In my opinion it should give a caution aspect.

Just uploaded my first scenario for The Port Road V2.0.

It's payware heavy so I apologise to those who can't run it, but for those who can, I hope you enjoy it.

I've seen that some signal links are been swapped. Meaning that link #1 is connected to the diverging line instead of mainline. The link #1 should be the mainline and the other links should be the rest.

Hi Keith. I'm making another scenario and I'm trying to get my player train to approach Castle Douglas from Dumfries and route into the goods loop as you have done in your "Choppers at 6 o'clock" scenario, but no matter what I do, it will not go. I'm using stop at instructions as I head west but it gets as far as "Castle Douglas dn main" and then I get the dreaded "!!!" when I put the next stop at as "Castle Douglas goods loop". Can you help? How did you get yours to do it?

This should only be a problem if you have AI traffic approaching - or if your train is too long for the loop.
A bit of fiddling with the timing of the AI or % performance of your train should sort it - there are plenty of destination markers on the loop - maybe try different combinations.
If you look at my Choppers scenario in edit mode that may give you some clues.

Also, a quick note about a problem in Castle Douglas goods yard - there's a tiny bit of track between 2 sets of points on the entry/exit crossing that is set to single direction working. This will effectively cut off the yard for scenarios as it's setup at present - you can get in but you won't get out.
I have changed this now and have a CD yard shunting scenario set up and working (will be included in V3).

Hope this helps :-?

Ah, probably my train is too long for the loop. Will try shortening it. Might explain why I am also having difficulties in Dumfries.

So that's why the shunter couldn't find it's way from one siding to another. Forgot to mention that so glad you spotted it yourself.

Hi Keith

Thankyou for a wonderful route and all your hard work creating this, really enjoyed driving this one. I was a terrible driver on my first run down this line so much interesting scenery to look at I forgot to look at signals, speed restrictions etc :D . Tell me is this your local route which you have created or what made you decide to do this particular area? I'm just wondering as I had never heard of the Port Rd till now and I've been taking a trip down memory lane looking at various photo's of this route which are available on the internet. Really interesting route and it brings back lots of memories of how things use to be across the UK before most of these fantastic branch lines were closed. One more thing Keith have you ever considered connecting this route up to the WCML North. Not sure if its possible in the sense of it would create too much hassle for ai workings going off the WCML onto this branchline which would hinder the mainline useage. (I don't know anything about AI or signaling issues just guessing probs might arise which can't be corrected easily).
