Royal Mail TPO Coaches

Postby newbouy on Tue Jan 05, 2010 1:41 am

Here are some shots of a model which im currently working on and should hopefully be uploading it soon as freeware to UKTrainsim. Its a Royal mail TPO (Travelling post office) NSA (Sorting office air braked) coach.I thought these would make some interesting scenarios.I plan to do 2 models ,the NSA and the NTA (Post office stowage van) which will have the same bogies and underframe but the NTA has 3 doors and the small windows are arranged differently. Also ill proberly do a couple of reskins with graffiti on or a very weathered look.It will be interesting to see what the reskining guys can do once they are uploaded.I dont really think these models need a passenger view as there isnt any windows to look out of but animated doors possibly yes.The model geometery is just about complete with a poly count of 7244 which i have tried to keep as low as possible and is within the RS recommended 10000.Next stage is to fully test it in Railworks ,get the couplings right and finalize the blueprints.I havnt got a clue how to get this into RailSimulator maybe someone will post and let me know how. Also i would of liked to get the tail lights to work on the end of a rear coach ,does anybody know if this is possible.Ill keep updating this tread as i progess ,post any comments or info and ill try reply.

Thanks Newbouy

All of the information you require in order to get your model from 3ds Max to RailWorks is available on the RailWorks Wiki.

Oh man those are wonderful.

I used to have the hornby 00 gauge model of the post train that popped out the basket at the side of the train and captured the bag of post. I would love to see that one done. I think it was LNER in the old burgundy red.

Keep up the great work.

Thanks

Yes, tail lights work on wagon type blueprints just as with engines. Just create a separate lights objects with the appropriate names (something like fwdtaillit & reartaillit - sorry can't remember off the top of my head, anyway, it's described in the engine docs).

They look Fabulous!
I don't suppose you'll be planning on producing versions of them as they were when new back in the 50s and 60s?

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.

I got around to looking this up - object name convention is light_fwdtail and light_revtail for the taillights at each end of the coach. I used this on the Amfleet coaches and it worked in Railsimulator. However I understand there's some sort of bug at the moment with Railworks and taillights.
