Despite a recent reminder, it has again come to the moderators' attention that a slowly increasing, but now significant, number of signature blocks are not conforming to the rules. Please may we remind you that it is your responsibility to ensure that they conform.

The rules regarding signature blocks are stated below...
The UKTS forums have the capability of allowing users to have a signature block that can be automatically appended to the end of each post on the forums. What you put in your signature block is up to you, however we do ask you to follow the signature guidelines as outlined below, as the use of inappropriate content and large images can cause difficulties for two types of forum user, those who are still on dial-up internet access, and those who consider the use of excessively large signature blocks as a disruption to use of the forums:

1) If a text only signature block is required, then it may be up to a maximum of six lines deep , and each line may have up to 80 characters. The text must be default size (i.e. no size parameter specified) and a blank line will count as a line in its own right. Links to personal or appropriate special interest websites may be included as part of the text.

2) If an image only signature block is required, then the image must be either a GIF or JPG format file of no more than 120 pixels high by 600 pixels wide. An unobtrusive amount of animation may be used (e.g. opening doors, moving object, etc). Major colour or image changes and flashing should not be used, as its use has been known to induce epilepsy and/or headaches. The image can be used to link to a personal or appropriate special interest website, and the file size of the image used must not exceed 50k.

3) If a combination of text and an image is required, then the maximum height for the image should be reduced by 20 pixels for each line of text used. Thus if one line of text is used, then the image must be no more than 100 pixels high; if two lines of text are used, then the image must be no more than 80 pixels high, and so on.

Anyone using a signature block that does not follow these guidelines will be asked to change their signature block accordingly. Refusal to change a signature block (or ignoring the request) will result in your signature block being deleted.

Where time is of the essence then moderators may where necessary amend a signature block themselves. Should this be necessary the decision will be taken in line with viewtopic.php?f=168&t=58280 and the reason(s) for the amendment may be communicated to the member by PM. Changing the signature block back again to the same or similar signature will be viewed in the same way as restarting a locked thread and dealt with accordingly.

This rule is there to make the forums easier to read. As signature block sizes rise, they start to get in the way of the post content itself, resulting in two inconveniences:
1.) The signature blocks have to be loaded
2.) It is harder to distinguish what is actually post content, possibly causing confusion.

Due to the amount of signature blocks currently not conforming to these rules, we will allow an amnesty, of one week , starting from today. After this, the moderators may DELETE your signature block, WITHOUT WARNING.

Please, even if you are sure that your signature block conforms to the rules, CHECK your signature blocks throughly.

Thank you,

The UKTrainSim Forum Moderation Team.
