Hi,

If you look in the screenshots above you will see a couple of steel access doors at the rear of the building. These were to supply the sand drying furnace with coal and sand. The lower left door gave access to a 12ft x 5ft x 5ft coal bunker which meant that the rail on that side of the shed was one bay shorter than the other lines. An OS Map shows track running alongside the building. Presumably coal and sand trucks were shunted in and their contents shovelled through the access doors ? - I've also been practising shading tileable textures using the shadow layer map - so in this case I've tried to make it look like coal dust staining the bricks below the door.

Cheers
Paul

That looks really good Paul, Im sure I can smell the coal dust :) Maybe it needs to be a little thicker though? The place looks familiar, like I have walked past that wall some time, a sign that you have nailed it I think 8)

Thanks Brian.

Here is a bit more coal dust staining - however I don't want to over do it - I'm just getting used to the technique at the moment so I might have to make some changes later.

Cheers

Hi Danny,

Many thanks - pleased you enjoyed seeing this model.

Here is a view from the front - however you can see that I still need to re-align the tracks to fit the spacing of the roads into the shed and I also need to lay some tunnel textures on the ground to reveal the inspection pits in front of the shed. I also need to add some more scenery on this side of the model.

The Engine Shed at Loughborough was closed in April 1931 when the Charnwood Forest Railway lost its passenger services. All motive power requirements were met by Coalville Shed until closure of the line in 1963.Sadly Loughborough Derby Road lost all services on closure in 1955 when Shepshed became the new terminus for goods and mineral traffic. The line between Shepshed and Loughborough remained intact until 1962 as a siding for old wagon storage which was very unpopular with the residents of Loughborough due to the unsightly nature of the old wagons. The engine shed still exists today but is barely recognisable. The only other remains nearby are the Goods Shed and some old track in the Messengers & Co. private siding.

Here is one last view of the Engine Shed.
